when a whisper becomes so loud
so deafening
you forget what there was to listen to
role call in class feels different
when your name is called
you recite it back
and it’s never acknowledged
yet the day and everyone else involved
carries on without a hitch
the fullness of a text message
are just hollow, empty words
when the ink on the pen
is still fresh
and you can’t even read the words
that you, yourself have written
there’s an absence of care
a lack of enthusiasm
finally realizing you’ve withdrawn
while trying to draw out emotions
your verbiage loses its luster
the smoke you once welcomed in your lungs
becomes a smog you can’t get rid of
the willingness to talk
becomes a desperation to live
keep trying
maybe someone will notice you’re dying
